Toy Drive
1 What is the
OLN Christmas Toy Drive?
The annual toy drive has taken place at Our Lady of Nazareth for over 20 years. The toys and gifts are collected in a toy box in the commons during the month of November.
2 What items are collected?
Any new or good condition toys or gifts for an infant, child, or teen are welcome. Also, special items such as a used bike or tricycle are greatly appreciated as well.
3 Who are the toys donated to?
The toys are primarily given to the center for Christian Action in
Pocahontas,
VA. Pocahontas is a former mining town located in southwest
Virginia- near
Bluefield, WVA. The center is run by the local community to help the local families in the surrounding area with technical and computer training as well as basic needs such as food, clothing, and medical assistance. The toys are distributed at an annual town Christmas party for the local children and families.
In addition to donating toys to Pocahontas, we also give toys locally to the Refugee Resettlement Office to distribute to newly arrived refugee families who come into the area from all over the world.
4 How can you help?
There are several ways to help with the toy drive at Our Lady of Nazareth.
A- A person or persons could be responsible for putting the announcements into the
bulletin prior, during, and after the toy drive.
B- Donate a toy or gift to the toy drive.
C- People may ride along and help with the delivery to
Pocahontas,
VA- (usually on
a Saturday at the beginning of December.
D- You may want to drop off a load of toys locally to the Refugee Resettlement
Office or another local drop off if needed.
E- Let the church office know if you are aware of a particular family or organization
that might benefit from some of our collected toys.
