Health Ministry
With a mission to promote the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of our faith community, nurses and other health care professionals provide free monthly blood pressure screenings and health information resources; seasonal offerings such as flu shots are also available. As of July, 2006 we are now blessed with a parish nurse! We welcome Maggie Caldarella to our OLN staff!

WHAT DOES A PARISH NURSE DO?

One of the most common questions asked of our parish nurse was, “What does a Parish Nurse do”?

The health care delivery system is becoming more complex and fragmented as each year goes by. Health promotion and support of mind and spirit are often pushed aside as traditional health care providers are challenged to keep up with paperwork and expectations of insurance companies and governing bodies.

The vision of your parish Health Ministry is that the parish nurse will work collaboratively with the current system and resources, with an emphasis on spirituality and compassion.

The role of a parish nurse is to be: a Consultant; an Advocate; a Resource; an Educator; and a Support.

Here are some general guidelines as to when to call the parish nurse:

  • When someone you know has been diagnosed with a serious illness and you have questions and need support;
  • When you need help accessing insurance, home healthcare or hospice;
  • When you need a compassionate listener during a life transition;
  • When you need help communicating with your physician or other healthcare professionals;
  • When you’re exploring nursing home or other congregate living arrangements;
  • When you’re caring for a loved one at home and need support;
  • When you’re facing surgery or have started a new medication;
  • When you’re dealing with anxiety, stress or depression;
  • When you’re caring for a new baby and have no family locally to call on for support.
  • When illness/lifestyle choices have you trying a new diet, and you need information/support;
  • When you’re sorting through treatment or end-of-life options for yourself or a family member.

Little Rock Scripture Study

Little Rock Scripture Study is a wonderful way to gather around the Lord's Word; to become more and more familiar with the Scriptures, to meet a lot of great people and enjoy Christian fellowship!  Our next study will be First Corinthians.  The community of Corinth could easily be our own - struggling for unity in the midst of conflict, and discovering weaknesses and strengths.  In this study, Paul invites you to find unity in the Gospel message.  We meet on Wednesdays beginning September 8th.  Times are 10:00 am - 12:00 noon or 7:00 - 9:00 pm.  You can sign up by e-mailing Donna at sec.cf@oln-parish.com or by calling 774-0773.  Deadline for registration is August 20th.
